Accident damaged car value.please help

I had an accident a week ago, and the other party accepted the fault and their insurance(directline) sorted a courtesy car for me. My car was collected soon after the courtesy car was given.

My car is a P reg Nissan micra 1.3gx 5 door 81k miles. I bought the car from a trader in london for £1300 in april 06. I have spend about £300 on top to get new tyres,battery,cd/mp3 player etc and i DO have all the bills.

I had a call from the directline that my car is a write off and they value it to £725.

Is this worth ? What should i do to make sure that i get something better and how much max can i expect ?

I would appreciate all the help.

Thanks.

Off hand that doesnt seem too bad
Is that with an excess deduction

What you have spent and what it is worth arent necessarily the same

What car valuation based on the best it can be (1997) is

New tyres etc dont add value to a car.
Insurance companies go off the book price of the car. They have offered 725. Point out that it wasn't your fault and for the same car you will need around a grand to replace it with. Go on autotrader.co.uk to get some prices of similar Nissans to yours and go armed with the info.

My car was wrote off a few years back and i was with Direct Line, the engineer who wrote it off looked in the local paper for similar cars and offered me that - i was happy with it. Check out your paper and then see if you agree with what they've offered.

£725 for a nine year old Micra is a good deal. Haggle with them out of principle but don't expect too much more.
