Samsung 40"-switching it off?

I have recently bought a Samsung 40" 1080 TV which is brilliant, however when I switch the TV off on a night at the set itself the standby light stays on, which I find strange.

I rang Samsung who told me that the only way to switch off the TV totally is to either switch off at the socket or take the plug out of the wall.

Can anyonde confirm that this is so, please?

I have a samsung TV - you can set it to switch off the blue standby light if you want through the main menu - got to setup , and then select blueeye off . Maybe totally irrelevant to your TV but perhaps worth a shot.

  • We've got an LG without a proper "off". As you say, you press the power button but the TV goes into standby. I reckon it must be something to do with the power needed to start up (ours is a plasma). Our solution was to buy a twin pack of remote control mains sockets (dirt cheap in maplin - £15 for the pair) and to do a main switch off of all our AV equipment and the end of the night. Plasmas EAT power during standby so I figure it's a bit greener and will hopefull save us a couple of £ on the leccy bill. :j
