I want a family photo shoot?

Simple, I live in Kings Lynn, Norfolk and we would like a family of 3 photo shoot. Just some simple shots for our relitives for Christmas time and for ourselves.

I've never even looked into getting photo's done though. Have no idea where to go, the possible costs involved.

Just looking for some advice and ball park figures so I know I'm not going to get ripped off.

Many thanks in advance! :D

I`ve been reading somewhere on these boards about family pics, Venture photographers were mentioned - very expensive , and a lot of people used local photographers cos they were just as good.

We used Venture. Photos were great but they wont just sell you the photo you have to have it framed. It cost us about £200 for 2 5x7 and one 8x10. Have another on the way now and we wont be going to them again.

Not local to you unfortunately but for price comparison purposes £150 can get you a professional family shoot with ALL the images on CD included - any extra costs for printing/framing is up to you.

Edited to add: You are not tied to the studio for the prints/frames, the pictures on CD are fully released for you to have your own prints done.

I would like to add, that local, established photographers are likely to be much more experienced and be generally more knowledgable than the students you get at Venture! I am also sure they could emulate Venture's 'style' if you asked them too ;)
  • olan mills in norwich have an offer on at the mo for 14.95 for the shoot with one free 10x8 and we've always been happy with our pics from there.

Venture's business model is based around a single opportunity to own the images of your loved ones. After that, they are either deleted or made [even] more expensive. The customer is pressured into making an on-the-spot purchase costing an awful lot of money.

I was quite surprised to see their low overall profit margin for such an expensive product - 25% is not much in retail, really. That's what we make on our individual "totshots" package, and we think it's a d*mn good deal for the customer.

However, our studio has been open for just under a year, and if I had a penny for every customer who'd said they'd never go back to Venture, I'd have £2.20. If you think about Venture's "repeat" business, it is going to be very low. It's an expensive product sold like timeshare. In business it's far cheaper to retain an existing customer than get a new one, which is why Venture's overall margins are so low despite their prices.

The moral? find a photography studio local to you (we're too far away, unfortunately) that is willing to sell you a photo shoot for a reasonable fee. The images should be available framed or unframed, the latter ranging from £5 to £50 depending on size. You should be under no pressure to buy there-and-then, but a small fee may be applicable if you can't decide and have to keep going back to look at the images. You might also be allowed to buy a DVD of the images, and the fee for that and/or the original shoot may be refunded if you end up spending a lot.

    Hi there,

I know a fab one in the Northwest-£60 for an hour's shoot, usually somewhere outside, in a park or a stately home etc, 3 prints (1 A4 and the other 2 10x8 I think), and a DVD of all the pictures put to music etc.

Great value! Shop around and see if you can find something similar. As others have said, the smaller, local photographers will probably be your best bet.

found the site anyway by googling his username but unfortunatley he's nowhere near me
:p It is better to be thought of as an idiot than to open your mouth and remove all doubt
