Warning: Unexpected amazon charges for "Fire for kids unlimited"

OK, I know this is a long time after above posts, but I've just been caught out by same thing with our daughter's Fire for Kids,
AND Amazon used one of my non UK debit cards to take the payments from, so I was charged the subscription fee
PLUS a 'non sterling transaction' fee! There is no way that I would have agreed to them using a non UK card, so they've obviously just picked the first debit card that is listed in my Amazon account and used that - very unprofessional!
We bought the tablet in John Lewis and wasn't told that there would be a subscription fee after a year - we only discovered that when setting it up. We just wanted a kids friendly tablet for an 8 year old, and that's what John Lewis recommended. Probably wouldn't have gone for it if we'd known about the subscription.
I totally agree that we should all keep an eye on when free subscription periods end, and I usually do, but it costs Amazon NOTHING to send out a 'reminder' email just before the free period ends, and it would be good practice on their part.
Let's be honest, we all know why they don't bother to do this...….
I'll be cancelling the subscription tomorrow - wish me luck trying to get my 'non sterling transaction fee' refunded too!

A subscription is a subscription. They sign you up and just don't charge for the first year, year 2 is automatically continued and paid for unless cancelled as is year 3 etc. It's in the T&C's when you first sign up. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=201222340
Not sure what the problem is here.
Apart from the kids subscription I don't use Amazon for anything, so not a fan....
I know it's an old thread, but I'll bet there are a load out there who got one for Christmas that didn't read the T&C'sDrinking Rum before 10am makes you

We bought our daughter a fire for kids 6years ago. I've only just noticed I've been billed £5 p/m for nearly 6 years lol I had no idea until I just noticed it. she broke her kindle 5years ago. Makes me mad how a company can continue to charge for a service that's shows 0 usage for 5 years. Will I be entitled to a refund? I'm not sure if I shd persue it or not.0

I take it you do check your bank statements ?
The responsibility is with you to cancel it, you can ask Amazon for a refund but they don't have to and it won't cost anything.1
