Dealership Servicing Car on Finance

Hi in February 2017 I bought a car on finance from MVP vehicles in Nuneaton, it is a Mercedes c class coupe 2013 reg. At the time I did not realise that the car is overdue service by 465 days (the car now flashes this). I have now realised the car was not serviced however when I contacted the dealership they said it is my responsibility to service the car. Servicing the car will cost over £250 (from Kwik fit) and I am worried as I have the car on finance for 4 years. Should the dealership be the ones paying for the service as I would not have wanted the car had I known I would have to pay to get it serviced. I am currently paying £400 a month for it and to pay an additional £250 plus for service is unreasonable. Can I get the dealership to service the car? And if so how?

Thank you in advance.

    School holidays already?

But i'll bite, who would you normally expect to pay for a car that you bought?

Also, why on earth would you take it to Kwik fit?

If you take it to Kwik Fit you will pay an arm and a leg. They will discover it's a death trap in need of urgent work. Amazingly this work will be things that aren't covered by any warranty.

How was the car advertised, did it state that it had a full service history and did you check this before agreeing to buy the car?

Going forward it is indeed your responsibility to service the car.

I assume you're thinking of Just Add Fuel style deals where everything including the service costs is lumped into your monthly. These all in packages are never available on used cars, only new, and are higher than usual monthly costs to cover the insurance, servicing, etc.

Also, as already said, don't go to Kwik Fit. It's now out of manufacturer warranty so find a local trusted Indy garage and let them look after it.
  • If you're winging and as it appears, can't afford to pay £250 for a basic service on your car why did you even buy such a car on finance?

Try a local Mercedes specialist id you don't fancy dealer prices, but I'd avoid Kwik-fit.

You can add maintenance to finance deals, but not usually on used cars. Unless your finance deal includes this, then servicing costs are down to you.

Edit to add - if was overdue for service when you bought it, I would have pushed to have it serviced as part of the deal.

If it's overdue by 465 days now, it was still 300+ days overdue when you bought it in February and the car's systems would have been telling you that.

Or even a decent local independent mechanic who knows what he's doing.

To the OP, did you not realise that servicing / repairs / maintenance are part and parcel of car ownership ? Were you really kept in the Dark about such Matters ?

Christ, I really hoped we'd seen the last of that muppet and his multitude of aliases
