Exclusive: Clive Woodward shares better business tips with New Model Adviser®
By Citywire 15 Jun, 2017

This is the first instalment of a series of a videos with Clive Woodward.

Rugby World Cup winning coach Clive Woodward explains why competition is key to improving a business.

He sets out how he improved his team as an international rugby coach: it may have been easy when his side was playing the New Zealand All-Blacks, but the real challenge was raising the standard against weaker teams.

'If you're a professional coach or business person, you're the person in charge of a team where if you lose to an underdog that's not a great thing to do. That's scary,' he said.

  • I was on an old economy 10. She said it was the most expensive rates she had seen.

We are in Altrincham, Cheshire (North West)

    27.33 pence per kw day
    11 pence per kw night

    Oh dear!

She should have told you it was also the cheapest tariff for you as there is no other option available

The details you have provided are not the rates of the E10 tariff

Which begs the question what tariff have they put you on. I hope it's not one that charges the same high rate 24/7 when you were getting lots of cheap energy on E10

Edit: here is nPowers complaint procedure
    https://www.npower.com/home/help-and-support/contact-us/complaints/

I think you are going to be needing it.

Edit2: Have to question why you are even with nPower if you are in the North West supply region - you should be with E.on

nPower has not supplied E10 to new customers for over 8 years. (bearing in mind you said this was a "Fairly modern build" in your OP)

  • Hi,

Thanks for that, I will be making a complaint!

Not sure, we moved in the apartment end of last year and the plumber told us we were on a good rate on economy 10 which was perfect for the new boiler (which he fitted last year). Do you think we have a leg to stand on arguing with npower?

At first i thought it was our fault and must have the boiler on the wrong setting, but the 2nd call to npower was completely different and the lady soon spotted what has happened.I have learned the hard way that's for sure.

** They have offered £30 compensation on the basis that last time i called (a few months ago) they said we were on the best tariff. I said I'd think about it as I'm not sure what we could reasonably get.

Yes pretty much, we were told we were on the best rate first time around and the second time the lady was shocked.

It also took a while to realise when we received the bills.

    Hello,

Looking for some help with my energy bills. Myself and my partner moved into a 2 bed apartment in December last year. Fairly modern build and standard apartment size.

The landlord had recently fit a new boiler and electric heating system that was meant to be super energy efficient. We got our first predicted bill which was £130 for the first month, of which i thought this was high, but thought would go down when we submit meter readings. When we submitted meter readings they revised our bills and showed that we used £350 in a month!!!

I called npower and they told me i was on the cheapest tariff and i should check my usage. We called the landlord who passed us to the plumber to make sure we had the boiler settings on right - we turned them down a little thinking that might be the problem.

We got the next bill from npower and it was still roughly £300. I called again and was passed to their energy efficiency team who were shocked at the price of the tariff we were on and have changed it right away. The problem wasn't with our usage. Now I know we could have acted faster but we were very new to this and trying to understand our bills (we were receiving bills then revised bills and rescinded bills) and the tariff was very confusing. We have now spent £1,100 on electricity in 6 months due to being on this very expensive tariff and a lack of understanding.

Can anyone help, is there anything I can do? Would npower credit our account or provide a refund on what we have paid? The lady told me she said there wasn't much we could do because we were on a restricted tariff.

    Any help would be appreciated.:o

OP, basics please: please confirm what system you have: is it an electric boiler supplying a wet CH system? And what did you have before: night storage heaters and an immersion heater?
Many people describe an immersion heater as a 'boiler', hence the confusion.
It may be 'efficient' but it's certainly not cheap, because it would normally need single rate metering, not E7 or E10. If you still have E10 metering then it's totally unsuitable for an electric boiler.
Switching from E7 or E10 with NSH's to a single rate system is likely to raise your energy bills by at least 250%. So both your plumber and your LL have misled you.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
