Travel insurance for package holiday?

Hi there, I'm going on a week long package holiday with Thomson next week to Spain (Flight+hotel+transfer to hotel).
When I booked it, the website asked if I wanted to take out their own travel insurance at £30. If not it said I could get it elsewhere.

Now, when searching for a cheaper deal do I need to get any specific type of travel insurance for a package holiday? Or can I just get something really basic. I'm not doing any extreme sports. Just sunbathing and drinking! cheers.

for example, does the insurance HAVE TO cover financial failure of the operator?

No it doesn't.


(Most policies don't cover you for any alcoholic drink related claims either)

also my return flight is on the 19th june, but I land 5 minutes past midnight on the 20th june. do I really need to get cover for a whole extra day just for those 5 minutes???

Yes. (Your cover will continue till you get home, and an extra day won't cost much more - if anything)
