Hi, i was told by a letting agency that the property i am renting was council tax b, yet when i went to pay my council tax at my local council department the informed me it was band c

council tax banding of all properties anywhere in the UK is a public record that can be checked online if you google it
if your real question is can you claim compensation for acting on the info you were given the answer is: good luck with that0 -
I don't see a question here which makes me think the OP is a bit lazy.
Council tax band are public records which everyone can access, it is your responsibility as a tenant to check these yourself before moving in. See link below
