in Energy
More of a business energy question than anything but maybe someone can tell me.
At present I'm being plagued with cold calls from various individuals claiming to be from the meter reading department of a particular energy company (company varies). They say there is a problem with tying up the meter reading with our supply number and ask me to read out the supply number from a bill. They will happily quote the MPAN number back to me but when I ask for the supplier customer account number they get all coy and start hiding behind data protection - so clearly aren't actually phoning on behalf of the supplier. The fact that on different days they'll try the same pitch with different site addresses also adds to the bovine excrement factor.
What I can't work out is what they want that supply number for - does that enable them to set up a new contract and thereby earn themselves commission? Or maybe just get the contract end date so they can come back and pester me for a new contract?
Going to be a long shot but maybe someone in the know can help my curiosity!
