We've recently adopted a new dog from a rescue and he has a funny looking small lump on the inside of his ear - a bit like a cyst maybe? He had his boosters last week and the vet seemed fairly interested in it.
We've not yet setup insurance and weren't 100% sure we would as he's a bit older (9yrs) and we expected premiums to be quite high. If we did start a new policy now do you think they would withhold payment for anything to do with this ear issue as it could be considered a pre-existing condition?

Yes, not only would it be classed as pre existing, but there is a 14 day no claims period for illness at the start of the policy.0

You may find they exclude ear conditions, you may find they exclude any cyst-type conditions (even outside of the ear) - the only way to find out really is to phone and ask, as every company deals with this sort of thing in their own way.
There are some companies that will cover pre-existing conditions if they've been symptom and treatment-free for 24 months, but this may be less of a concern with an elderly dog..
At the very least, if you don't take out health insurance on the dog, sign up for the Dogs Trust for ~£20-25 a year and you will get third party liability for all dogs in your household - very useful in case your dog were to cause an accident or injury to someone/someone's property.0 -
Thanks for the replies
Yep, we're already Dogs Trust members for the 3rd party liability ins as it was required for the secure field we use. Will just go ahead as we have before and put money aside each month for any issues. Back to the vet today for second booster so will see what he has to say!0
