Electricity meter registered to wrong address
I have been in a new build property for 3 years and been paying EDF for my electricity for most of this time. However, it has become apparent that my electricity meter is registered to next door, who are supplied by British Gas. After a call to BG they are telling me my address is supplied by Scottish Power. However, I left Scottish Power not long after moving in and my account has been closed and final bills settled.
Where do I go from here? I'm going round in circles. Is there any way to make sure my meter is registered to my address?
Thank you.

You have never had an account set up.
You were paying your neighbours bill.
You should contyact your supplier and set up an account with them.
Then the payments from you and your neighbour who is probably paying your bill can be swapped out.
It's a big mess! Usually occurs becuse builders register as plots and the numbers get confused when updated to housing which may have been done using prelimenary info and then they built an extra house and it's all out.
All part of the new build joy I'm afraid.0 -
Seems to be an Error on Error situation
As Carrot007 posts, errors in allocating meters on new build estates are all too common, but you have an extra twist in that when EDF took over your suppy from Scot power, this change was not recorded on the Regional Data Base register for your area.
BG are probably right in saying the Data Base shows Scot Power as your supplier, but check this for yourself by googling "Who supplies my Electricity" for the phone number of the Data Base covering your area - Be aware this will be a premium rate call.
WRITE to EDF explaining the situation and asking why they are not registered as your supplier on the data base0 -
Thank you both. I've been in contact with Western Power and they confirmed my meter number is registered to next door and vice-versa. They have now updated the register to show my address for my meter number. They advised me to contact EDF & SP tomorrow.
SP took over my electricity from EDF in April without my knowledge. EDF, who has been saying they haven't supplied my property since last March is incorrect according to Western Power and they have the master database. I'm really hoping to get this sorted asap.
Fortunately EDF refunded me my payments, so I at least have money in the bank to pay my electricity charges for the past 3 yrs!0
