Each to his/her own ... I've exclusively used free AV suites for 15+ years and have also never experienced a virus or malware. :)

Windows 10 is pretty locked down just keep it updated and use Windows Defender. Anti-virus software used to be a thing back in the days of XP but now their rather redundant. Some like Norton actually added security flaws instead of securing your machine. The biggest threats today are Zero Day flaws which no security software will protect you from.

Yes, but not because of reduced threat levels, but because of the AV industry’s inability to keep up with the sheer volume and speed of new malware being released on a daily basis.

No security software? Are you sure? Agreed if you actually mean signature based anti-virus software.

But there are various advanced, threat detection/prevention sandboxing and anti-executable programmes available providing more than adequate, if not complete protection against zero day malware – Comodo Firewall, correctly configured, for starters.

Plain AV is useless these days. you need a min. full protection of an Internet Security package.

the fact is Anti Virus has a clue in its name it will protect against Virus

for malware, adware, ransom ware, worms etc. You need Internet Security

how many have an AV installed and then have to install Malwarebytes and/or SUPERAntiSpyware to take care of Malware, Spyware, Rootkits, Adware, Worms, Parasites.
