Problems with the category of car?

Hi,

About 2 weeks ago I brought a 2004 reg car. It was insured, taxed, and has a fresh MOT on it until march 2018.

This morning, I received an email from my insurers saying that the vehicle is marked as scrap. We've contact the guy we brought the car from and he insists it has never been scrapped and it must be an error. I performed a HPI check and its stating that the vehicle is a Category A write off from December 2016? Spoken to the DVLA who are investigating, but even they have stated that we shouldn't even have been able to tax the vehicle with this marker on it?

Looking for some help on what I can do and what the likelyhood is of it being recorded as a Cat A write off incorrectly? It doesnt look damaged at all, not to an A standard write off anyway.

It's being parked up for now but would like some assistance.

If it really had been a Category A, it would have been almost unrepairable. It's either an error in paperwork somewhere, or the identity of the car is a bit dodgy.

ive had one of these letters sent to one of my customers this year she obviously was very upset
took me 20 minutes on the phone to sort it
turns out it was as said a clerical error but this time at dvla not hpi
this needs sorting by the selling dealer ,its what i did anyway

DVLA once scrapped my car even though it was sat in my garage.

Some clown in one of their offices got the reg number of another vehicle wrong.

It took 11 months to sort out.

Given the error is clearly with the MIAFTR and HPI database not the DVLA somebody at an insurance company has entered a character from the reg wrong when entering a car which has been burnt out on MIAFTR when processing a total loss claim.

Only the insurer who made the entry or the MIAFTR company can amend it.

The fact DvLA issued a long book shows it is not scrapped on their records.

Your insurer may put you in contact with the relevant insurer or you could contact MIAFTR directly. I will have a look for contact details later.

    Info@miaftr.com

Give them your details, the vehicle details and explain the situation much as you did above. Request that they contact the insurers who entered your reg on miaftr to confirm they have entered an incorrect reg in error and ask that the record is updated to the correct registration.

Then send a copy to your current insurer asking that they leave cover in place for your car whilst miaftr investigate. It should be sorted very quickly as it is not the first or last time this has happened.
