Advice on year old energy bill?

Apologies if this is in the wrong sub forum, I am new here!

Basically, I had an account with First Utility. I moved out of the UK for a year, and left my rented accommodation. When I left, I asked about my final bill via email, and received a reply asking me to send off my dates of leaving, final meter reading, stuff like that.

I sent the required information the day I received their request for information, and heard nothing back, apart from an automated email one month later, telling me it would 8 days til i received my final bill..

After this time I heard nothing else. I was also in Thailand from then on, so obviously it slipped my mind and I didn't chase it up..

Now I have a Debt Company emailing me telling me I have to call them ASAP, and I am a bit worried about what is to come.

Is there any recourse to sorting this other than just paying this debt company whatever the full amount is?

Thanks! and again, apologies if this is in the wrong forum.

Regards,

Chris.

Did you leave them with a postal address they could write to you at? Was anything sent there?

Did you make any attempt to contact them after the 8 days had passed and no final bill had arrived?

No further contact between us, I had gone abroad and forgot stupidly..

They have my email address for contact but only my previous address. I haven't contacted them again since this collection company has started to email me.

Then you probably need to contact the debt collection company asap and figure out a way of resolving this with the least possible damage to your credit history. Expect to have to pay additional costs for things like them having to try tracing you as well - if you don't, then consider yourself lucky.
