Torn between properties

Hi there, I am moving back to a former area I used to live for college I have the choice between reasonable priced student accomdation though all the best ones are long gone by this point and a social housing property which I can get due to minor disability and weighing up pros and cons.

The biggest cons about the social housing is its 10 miles from town centre and I am still waiting for my bus pass, and Id assume £15-£20 a week on travel though college pays for it and its a small town so there is smaller shops and about 5 take aways and 5 pubs even a charity shop and post office and whilst its beautiful walks around theres still beautiful walks in town so that isn't a pro I would of course have to get own furniture too but the ha can furnish whole property for £100, i'd feel isolated in a village as I don't drive and don't plan to get a car for at least a year as only just got my provisional license.

Then I have to pay for utilities on my own, internet I see the biggest outlying cost and the other reasons are that the main town is a large place and can get train back from parents/friends which takes a hour or two depending on which one I get and living in the town means a 10 minute walk from train station to student accomodation and no rush to get a bus, also means if I want to treat myself to a pint or meal out can just walk around corner.

Student accomdation cons is purely I don't know who I would be staying with, and it won't be stable housing association property, and has a deposit.

Pros for village/town one is no deposit and secure tenancy, and being ha is in brilliant condition.

This is all bearing in mind the social housing side I find strange, Im not on waiting list but they advertised it on internet and when I contacted they said priority just goes to people who have links to the town which I do.

My heart is set on the town but I do not want to lose out on a once in a lifetime opportunity because its not my preferred area.

If the flat came up in the town I wanted to live even if it was 4 miles to town centre I would be fine.

Oh and another con for student accomodation is its 44 week contract meaning I can't leave if I dislike it.
