Borderline Car [Write Off
Hi
We were involved in an accident and our insurance company have said that they estimate our car is going to cost £6000 to fix (without having done a full strip down) and worth £9,500.
They say they write off at 65% of value which this doesn't quite meet. They will offer to write the car off today for a discount (£8,500) anyway (to "save us the hassle") or they can have the mechanics strip it down and either they will find more damage which will take it over the threshold and they will write off at full £9,500 or they won't find any further damage and will repair it.
There's no real attachment to the car so we wouldn't be sad to see it go but is this a standard ploy by insurance companies to try and get you take take a lower pay off?
Thanks
B

I would say so. Call their bluff and ask for £9500 now to write it off, or let them go ahead.
Do you have a hire car that is costing them all the time as well?0 -
We do indeed have the car hire... I i imagine the strip down isn't going to be cheap especially if it come back as a write off. So it's just a case of saying that we can save them hassle and cost and take the full write off value now?0
