^^ is the common sense answer.
It is silly pursuing small claims or even the bank before asking Samsung if they can help.0 -

Just had a response back from Samsung
"We at Samsung go to great lengths during the manufacturing design of each product to ensure exceptional performance and reliability. However, despite these efforts, it is unfortunately not possible to eradicate all potential failure and we have to concede, to a point, that faults will still occur. With this in mind, each product is supplied with a warranty which protects it against such potential failure, within the terms and duration of the warranty. I understand from the details you have provided that it is now beyond the one year standard warranty which does mean that any required repair would have to be carried out on a chargeable basis"0 -

1) scrap TV and pay another £900 to replace
2) send to samsung repair centre and see what a repair will cost.
the repair centre will tell you if it is worth repairing0 -
Then it's now time to re-read post #12 and send a letter before action to Crampton and Moore.Just had a response back from Samsung

Now John Lewis are offering 5 year warranties on items like this, I can't see how these will stay in business
Are TVs less reliable these days? In the last 35 years we've only bought three, all from John Lewis(*)
(*) Not counting one from a well known electrical retailer that we bought in a panic to watch the men's Wimbledon final and returned a week later.0 -

I don't!
So i'm going to try #12 but I'm not holding my breath, personally I can't afford to spend a grand every three years so I'll be buying something cheap and cheerful
Thank you all for your help0 -
Statistically, TVs are far more reliable these days. There are always exceptions, of course.
Supermarket cheapies are not the way to go if you want reliability and can even be a false economy.0 -
Something 'cheap and cheerful' will expire soon after it's out of warranty. Avoid Technika etc like the plague. Go to Richer Sounds and you can get a very good value 5 year warranty. No free lunch, and no free laptop
