Hard to get a current account

Hello all,
Does any one have any advice?
Having seperated from his first wife my partner had to open a new bank account and chose a cash card account with the Halifax as it would be up and running within the day. Shortly after he recieved a CCJ and Halifax would not allow him to upgrade to a current account. It is now nearly eight years later and although we believe the original CCJ is no longer on his credit report we have recently both received one for overpaid Tax credits, they still wont upgrade him despite the fact that he has over £1500 being paid in every month from his wages.
Does anyone know of a bank that will issue a current account even with a bad credit score?

First of all get copies of the files from Experian!
Have you got a CCJ from Inland revenue over the Tax credits?
If so it didn't just get put there for the fun of it and I'm quite sure that a lot of correspondence would have been sent from IR before it got to that state.
It does not matter how much is credited to an account if there is adverse information - it will severly limit what kind of accounts and credit that you can have.0
