advice

hi,i applied for halifax credit card few days ago and rejected but today i wanted cheak my current account balance online and they just said apply for credit card u might be accepted so i applied again and still refused today,but computer said (we cant offer you credit card becuas you been refused in last 30 days) is that mean today they didnt do full credit cheak?,,is it bad for my credit file? im worried if they close my current account as well because i been refused for credit card?

    It will be a policy decline, therefore will not have reached the CRAs.

    It will not impact your current account.

    Searches for credit will normally show for 12months on your credit file and then come off. It shouldn't have too much impact on your history and is only normally an issue if you have a lot of searches showing over a short period. I would expect there to be one search on your file (from the first application) and it may be worth checking about the second one. Keep an eye on your credit file over the coming months and if you notice any issues, you should raise them with the bank/ credit agencies.

    If a second search appears or if they penalise your current account in anyway (i.e. reduce your overdraft) I would suggest you complain to the bank, especially as the second application was on their suggestion. However, I agree with zx81 and think this is very unlikely to affect your account and high unlikely they will close it.
