Sage switching to Subscription only- EXPENSIVE!

Just had a call from Sage regarding my Payroll support contract.

Sage are switching all their customers to subscription. My contract doesn't expire for a few months, so they were trying to get me to move to subscription early. Happy days if it would save me a few bob eh? No. It's going to cost me 3 times as much!

Well, it isn't because there's no way I'm paying it, but they really are trying to pull a fast one here. They are creating a 2-tier subscription package system and lumping some of the paid-for bolt-ons into the Standard package so even if you don't use them, you'll pay for them.

Options like:
Pensions module
Employee Benefits module
Sage payments module
Online payslips storage

are now going to be part of the standard subscription package. Now I have no use of any of those modules. If I needed them, I would have bought them separately before now. But there are going to be 'standard' for the bargain, discounted price of £95 per month for 3 years!

That's £1140 per year. Currently, I pay £336. Why would they think that I would think this is a good deal??? Nutters.

I see a move to Xero or quickbooks in my future. Although, tbh, I'd rather use HMRC's paye tools, painful as that is, than line Sage's pockets to the tune of £1140 a year for a load of carp I won't use!

Oh and if you want or use Sage's HR advice service or the H&S advice service, you'll have to buy the second tier subscription - the Professional. I didn't ask how much that was going to be, I was already feeling faint at the price of the Standard!

Moneysoft payroll is excellent and costs circa £150 per year. We moved to it from Sage about 15 years ago for our payroll bureau and never regretted the move at all.

Thanks for the recommendation Pennywise - I'll look into it :)
