Paint for platic type wood

Hi Guys

We have built in wardrobes which are plastic type wood, we wanted to paint them white as they are cream and to make them looker newer, also get new door handles.

can you recommend a paint I can use, not too pricy as we already spent a lot of decorating this house.

thanks

When you say "plastic type wood", do you mean melamine faced chipboard?

There are various paints on the market for melamine. We considered doing this ourselves but in the end decided to get new wardrobes.
Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
On a rotating plate, with spikes like Flash Gordon
And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning

Yes sorry Melamine faced, They are pretty good shape but just want to make newer looking and to go with out decorating.
  • Painting melamine successfully and getting a good end result will require a lot of work. They need to be properly primed and several coats with sanding in between. Making the look good will require some skill.

    Could you have them sprayed?

I've done this using the correct paint. As above, it is hard to get a smooth finish, especially on large areas, doors etc. Adhesive vinyl might be an option, but not as cheap

Paint with a coat of Zinnser BIN, it sticks to anything. You can then paint with a top coat of your choice. I would recommend eggshell.

    thanks guys

With regards to spraying, can you buy this type of paint in a spay can?
or do you mean putting the paint in a paint sprayer?

    Also eggshell sounds nice :)

I did my kitchen cabinets using the same method Adandem describes. It is time consuming but the end result is excellent - go for it!
