Who to chase?

The saga of my conveyancer and the Homes and Communities Agency continues.... HCA have no record of my conveyancer contacting them ref a covenant on a property I'm selling, conveyancer says HCA were written to 8+ weeks ago but forwarded me an email sent to HCA dated just 3 weeks ago. I've told my conveyancer that there is an online method for what is needed - I've told them 3 times in the last month - but nothing seems to have been done.

Who do I chase, and do I now do it in writing as a complaint? Any suggestions? I'm tearing my hair out and getting very worried that we will lose our buyer at this rate.

Can you do whatever needs to be done online - rather than asking your solicitor to?

Escalate the matter according to the conveyancer's internal complaints proces.
  • Thanks both, will try to do the online bit myself and will contact the complaints department as well. That was my thinking as well but wanted to pick the brains of people who have a clearer head about this than I currently have. I'm not stupid, far from it, but the stress over this is stopping me thinking clearly.

    So...
    - conveyancer says they sent a letter 8 weeks ago
    - HCA say they haven't received it

Rather than making a complaint, I would try to get things moving. For example...

    - Ask conveyancer to send you a copy of the letter by email
    - Phone HCA to find out who deals with this kind of stuff, ask for their email address
    - Forward the letter to them
    - Phone later to ask if they received it, and does it contain all the info they need. Ask when you will hear back, etc.

(Having said this, many organisations don't let you get past the dozy assistant that answers the phones, but it may be worth a try.)

I think I'm getting somewhere, I rang the conveyancer and asked to speak to someone other than my usual one and things seem to be moving with it now. Fingers crossed....
