Lidl Mouldy Bread Rolls!

On Sunday 4th June I bought a packet of 6 bread rolls, when packaging them up I noticed they were thick with green mould. I called for the Manager who simply offered a refund or an exchange. He also said "Unfortunately we can't quality check all the products we put on the shelf!" So I took a photo along with the receipt. A relative also bought some carrots a week earlier and when opening them when she got home found them to be all slimey so just threw them away. I seriously think this store should be health and safety checked!! Do you also think I will be able to claim any compensation for this?

Oh, good grief! Compensation for what? I suppose you've been traumatised by nearly buying mouldy rolls? Stressed by experiencing such a near-miss. Get a grip and read the labels next time.0 -
Yes you definitely should get compensation for the financial value you lost...
and you were offered it when the manager offered you a refund.0 -
You had your rights when you were offered a refund/replacement.
Annoying, yes... so vote with your feet.
It's a bread roll ... you didn't buy an expensive lobster for a special Christmas Dinner with your Aged mother who had flown half way round the world to spend her last ever Xmas with you .... and even so, your rights would be the same: refund/replacement is job done.0 -

Is there a part of you that feels even a little ashamed and embarrassed for asking that?0 -
So the OP did not see they were thick with green mold when picking up a single packet from the shelves yet believes that the shop staff should be inspecting each and every packet when they bring the full trays out from their storage area.
As stated the offer of a replacement was given so end of story. I would think that there is not a supermarket in the country that has not at one time or another had food products on their shelves that are off or going off. Perhaps the OP should look to go self sufficient growing all their own food that way if anything is off they will only have themselves to blame.0 -
Really? Compensation? For what? Did you eat the rolls & subsequently become violently ill causing health issues & clean up costs on a axminster carpet that wont come clean??The manager did thier job & offered you a refund/exchange.Dwy galon, un dyhead,
Dwy dafod ond un iaith,
Dwy raff yn cydio’n ddolen,
Dau enaid ond un taith.0 -
Don't feed the obvious troll !!0

The boxes of rolls tend to be shelf ready so they just take the lid off and put on the shelf without any real reason to check (or time to do so) if every item needed checking the prices would be higher I imagine.
Assuming the carrots where UK crop the British season has been ending the last few weeks and the carrots tend to deteriorate a little quicker towards the end of the season.0 -
I got carrots from Aldi last Thursday but only used them today. They were a bit slimy but I rinsed them before preparing. We are having them for lunch shortly. Shall I report back if we become ill later? Whose fault will it be. Aldii or me for having used food which clearly should have been thrown away immediately! Where can I claim compensation as I am now in a fit of anxiety.0

Yep most stuff in supermarkets come in shelf ready packaging these and staff hardly have to handle them - straight on shelf.
Also most supermarkets use the 'just in time' method. Deliveries every day and stock goes straight out onto the shelf. There is no aladdin's cave of spare stock out the back either.0
