Thought I would write a little tutorial about how to create a spam-free Gmail or Yahoo email account that some people might find useful.
Yahoo
Register for a Yahoo ID at http://mail.yahoo.co.uk, something you'll remember, we're not going to use it as your email address.
Once signed in, click Options and then Mail Accounts
Scroll down to the bottom and click "Get started"
Choose a name with a dot in it eg Joe.Bloggs and save.
Click options again then filters.
Click add
In the screen which follows, look for the "To/Cc header", enter your base Yahoo ID and set the destination to trash.
Then simply give out the email address with a dot in it as spammers tend to leave these alone. All mail sent to your username@yahoo.co.uk will be automatically deleted, while all mail going to your new email address will arrive in your inbox.
Gmail
Sign up for gmail.
Sign in and choose settings
Click on the filters tab and then add new
In the to box, enter your Gmail address.
Click next step, and then create filter.
You may be wondering how you can receive emails now you have sent them all to trash, and the answer is simple. If your email address is JoeBloggs@gmail.com simply tell people that your email address is joe.bloggs@gmail.com.
Gmail ignores the dots and will deliver the mail to your inbox, but all mail without the dots, will be automatically deleted!
You'll never have to spend hours sorting through spam every week again!
Hope this helps somebody!
