Need an automatic car for the missus and its a choice between the Jazz or a Vauxhall Corsa what are peoples opinions of the jazz how reliable are they. I'm looking for 08 plate and upwards should I get one with a semi auto gearbox or with full auto gearbox is one more reliable over the other also what are other common faults with these?

  • I would say generally Hondas will last longer.

Would suggest full auto is you cannot go for manual.

OH has a manual Jazz (57 plate). She has previously had an automatic Corsa which she really liked.

You'll get good and bad stories regarding all makes and models ... the Jazz generally goods a good reputation, albeit is also thought of as "an old person's car". (But don't tell my missus!) :D

An 08 Jazz should have a CVT so not one of those awful automated manual transmissions. Honda did use one of those for a short time then realised the error of their ways and revered to the CVT. Does the Corsa have an automated manual? If so, avoid like the plague.
F in Law had a 07 Jazz with CVT and it was really good and reliable. I hav a Toyota with a CVT and that is fine too. Don't believe all the nay sayers with regards CVTs, they've probably never driven one anyway!
Go for the Jazz all the way, if it's a CVT.

My OH's old Corsa wasn't a flappy paddle type, it was a classic auto box. (R, N, 1, 2, 3, D, P as I recall, not necessarily in that order).

There's a reason that every old person out there drives a Jazz....they are solid reliable no-nonsense cars ;)

Jazz definately! I've had 2, one manual and one automatic. I can't fault them and never had a problem with either of them. Very reliable and long lasting.

    I'm not old either!

That and they only have one speed, 40mph everywhere. :rotfl:

I have one as well, a 2010 manual. Great car, huge inside. Can't comment on the auto option but have not heard bad things about it. You will love the magic seats (made possible by the placing of the fuel tank under the front seats!). Seriously good engineering. Camchain engines so no cambelt, cheap parts. I get about 49 MPG mixed but I am a careful driver, wife gets around 45.

Had a Corsa D a few years ago (1.2 manual), what a turd. Slow, cramped, tiny boot.
