Slovenia

Hi there everyone! I'm off to Slovenia next week - just curious to know how much cheaper it is out there for eating out (going to Ljubljana, Piran, Bled) and if anyone can make any recommendations of things to do and see! Cheers...

If it is open, take the lift to the ski slopes to the West of Bled. Great views. Explore the countryside and meet the people. We enjoyed a trip to the coast.

  • just got back from slovenia last week!

    Price wise:

Nice meal for two in Bled with 1/2 litre of wine was 20euro (only main meals plus a side dish, not including a starter or dessert)

A really nice restaurant in Bled was called the Ostarija Peglez'n near to the hotel golf and below a bar called 'Pub Bled', it was really nice food and my other half is a vegetarian so she didn't have too much to choose off the menu however they were more than accomodating, varying one of the other dishes to suit her.

a beer is generally the same price wherever you go about 1,70 euro

get up to the mountains if you can, we went to a lovely place called Logarska Dolina, (or the logarska valley in english)

you may struggle in less touristy places this time of year though due to it being out of season,

    hope this helps :-)

  • You should find (despite a recent rise in the cost of food) prices very much to your liking. Slovenia, because of its geographic position, has a cuisine that is mix of italian, Austrian & (in the east) Hungarian, and in my experience the restaurants (Gostilnas) are generally excellent.

In terms of places to visit, I would thoroughly recommend to lake Bohinj (https://www.bohinj.si) west of lake Bled, which I think is much less touristy and more beautiful than Bled. A trip up the cable car of Mount Vogel is a must!

I'd also recommend a trip to the cave systems at Skocjan or Postojna, which are (arguably) the best in Europe.

I think Slovenia is stunning. I hope you have a lovely time.
