im in the process of selling my car and its currently got a private number plate on it which im gonna put on retention by using the online process on the DVLA website which I can then swap over straight away.
In regards to my current logbook will I receive a new one through the post with the original plate on it and in the meantime can the car be passed on to its new owner without them signing the registered keeper section or am I still liable for it until its properly signed over in the logbook?

the online DVLA service is from 7am to 7pm so im gonna do it first thing tomorrow.
the thing is he wants to collect the car tomorrow and what he is saying is that he will sign the registered keeper section when I receive it back in the post.
Can I just hand the car over to him tomorrow and what happens if he happens to be involved in a car accident and he is questioned whether its his car as I'd still be the registered keeper.0

untll its processed , and paperwork recieved , how is he going to tax it and insure it , which VRN , and then a fee for changing insurance details in a week or two ?

the car will still be taxed as its taxed under my name.
I would have done it weeks ago but I didnt expect the car to sell so quickly.0

I've had a quick read online and I've read that you can put private number plates on retention and also notify the DVLA of a car sale.
Am I able to do two of these processes the same time as in swapping over my car number plate to its original and notify the DVLA at the same time and if thats the case my car buyer is able to have the car tomorrow?0

yes you can put a plate on retention , THEN when you get the new v5 back you can go online and declare it sold using the NEW v5 numberSave a Rachael

No it won't. When you sell a car the tax dies with the sale. The new owner has to tax it straight away.0

how long does it normally take to have a new logbook in the post?0

dunno on a retention , on an online sale one , you can have (or the owner can) the V5 the same week , however I expect retention would be a manual service and take a week or too .
no idea about online retention , but this is for online sale , of you fill in email addresses you get instant notification https://www.gov.uk/sold-bought-vehicleSave a Rachael

I did a retention last year. V5 took about a week to get back. Do it 7am and if your lucky you might get it by the weekend which for most people would be good for a pick up.0
