Being in credit on credit card

We made a bit of a boob when my wife paid our credit card balance and then i sent a cheque for the same amount unknown she had already paid. This will mean there will be a £150 credit balance on the card.
Will the payment be returned or if it gets allocated to the account will we still be charged per transaction?

How does this situation actually work- to our advantage if possible!

Thanks

If the account is in credit just ask and they'll refund it to your bank account.

My understanding is that if you buy items or services with the credit balance it wouldn't be cover by the credit card 'guarantee'. I know it's not called that, the terminology escapes me at the mo but hopefully you know what I mean!

What do you actually mean by this? I know of no credit card which makes a per-transaction charge when making purchases.
If you are asking if the transactions will continue to appear normally on your statement, yes they will with the value of each transaction debited from the credit balance.

But you will still likely pay a fee if you try to draw it out in cash. So don't do that.
