PC DVD player sound problem

My friend has a DVDRW in their PC. They listen to, and have burned audio CD's with no problems.
They have never burned a DVD but when they attempt to watch a DVD, the audio is 'jumpy' and has a time lapse. The video is ok though. I have tried a shop bought dvd film and a dvd that someone copied for them and the audio is 'jumpy' on them both.
I have tried 3 different programs to watch DVD's and the audio is an issue with all three.
Do you think the DVDRW is faulty?

Unlikely no, the issue is more likely to be with the DVD extraction and burning software.
What are you using to Rip the DVD with and what software are you burning it with?0 -
The DVDRW has never been used to burn DVD's - only play them.0

What make of DVD player is it?0

It's an LG DVDRW - they've had it over a year now.0 -
I don't think that it's the DVDRW itself that's faulty.

I don't think that a faulty DVDRW would only affect the sound.
If it were me, I would keep trying different media players.
But that's just my opinion.
Have you tried using VLC media player?

Sounds like a hardware / software issue to me what are the specs of machine and what software are you running?0

It sounds like there's a compatibility problem between the drive and the computer. It'd be a good idea to try a different DVD-RW drive with the same PC, and try their drive in a different PC, and see which you have the problem with.0

What Software are you using to play the DVD on,
Windows Media Player? PowerCinema?0 -
Thanks everyone for your help.
Their PC is a dell dimension 2400 with XP & 2gb of ram. They purchased the DVDrw at a later date.
They use Nero to burn CD's.
I have used WMP, DIVX & Power DVD to play films - to determine if it was a software player issue - but all have the sound fault.
They have never been able to watch dvd's because of this. They haven't tried writing a DVD though.0
