I used to teach in a private school and don't think all pupils get good value, as anyone not keeping up with the average is expected to pay for tuition and staff discouraged from giving help during breaks, as happens in State schools.
I agree teddysmum, for me it would be state school all the way, but put the effort in at home to help and encourage. It isn't uncommon for local primary infant pupils to have private tutoring paid for by parents who want the very best secondary places, but don't have time at home to even read with their kids.
But going back to the OP - I would not tie my money up in investments if it was likely to be needed to help with education costs. That could happen well within a 5 year timescale, so even a 5 year fixed rate bond might limit the options available."In the future, everyone will be rich for 15 minutes"0
