Negotiating a kitchen

Hi All, We have been given a price of £14,000 for a kitchen with fitting. Does anyone have any advice on negotiating on this? What kind of markup do kitchen companies normally add? They are a small local firm. Thanks

It depends what that includes. If it's 6 units and a laminate worktop, there's a lot of room for negotiation. However, if it's 20 units, plumbing, wiring, granite etc, it may be a fair price with little negotiation room.

To give you an idea, I fitted a good quality kitchen with 20 units, granite worktop for £5000. I fitted the kitchen myself and got a local company to supply and fit the granite.

As above, but on a more general principle, what do you hope to achieve? Presumably a price that is mutually acceptable? I think the simplest tactic is to thank the firm for their quote but say that it's a little more than you are prepared to spend. They will perhaps offer a discount or suggest some economies with the specification or design. If they don't, you'll have to decide whether to proceed or walk away.

    Who by and what for?

Until we know that we have no idea of if that price is fair or not.
