Ebay Returns Label - Not Suitable!

I purchased two part worn car tyres from an ebay seller. When they were delivered I found that one of the tyres had two bulges, must have been in a heavy accident or something? I notified the seller through Ebay that I wish to return the two tyres because one of the tyres was defective. Ebay automatically created a pre-paid returns label which was Royal Mail 48 Tracked service.
The trouble is that the tyres are too large to use this service. A tracking number was produced with the label and it looks like once the tracking is tracked (posted) I will be awarded a refund. If tracking is not recorded I will not get a refund.
Anyone been in this situation before? or any advice would be very much appreciated.

No it`s Ebay.
eBay just seems to make it up on the spot!
They asked me to fill out a survey about their returns process recently and I let them have it! It is truly pathetic!
As a seller, if I can send something small out as 'large letter' for 80p, why should I pay £2.80 for an eBay return label!
I have just been doing my own through RM and sending on to the buyer.0 -
Yeah and it's crap.

As a buyer I would open a case rather than accept an untracked returns label. Not all sellers are honest and admit when they get a non-tracked item back.0 -

I don't think all the ebay ones are tracked anyway, certainly not all the ones they offer when sending items out are.
BTW, I haven't yet had one that didn't get back to me, though I am not dealing with high volume.0 -
Well that isn't me, I am honest, and always refund when I receive the item.

The returns ones are. A couple of times I have been away and had an item returned but not been home to recieve. As delivery has been attempted Ebay have told me to refund immediately. So I have to refund without being able to check the contents.0 -

If a sellers refuses to to pay for returning and item and ebay have to generate the return label then that is the sellers fault, so he must bear the extra cost0
