i'm scrapping my car and the dvlc site says in England I can't accept cash for it https://www.gov.uk/scrapped-and-written-off-vehicles/where-vehicles-can-be-scrapped but scrap ppl say they can pay me in cash - second bullet point at http://scrapmycarcash.com/faq/. Their faq also says i don't have to tell dvlc as they do it, doesn't sound right?

The gov.uk website says "It’s illegal to be paid in cash if your vehicle is scrapped in England or Wales. You have to be paid by bank transfer or cheque."

This is not correct. It's illegal to PAY in cash(Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013, section 12(1)). The dealer would be committing an offence, but you would not.

  • Ether are only supposed to pay by cheque or bank transfer ( mine last year )

I've had 3 cars scrapped over the years and 2 I got given a certificate of destruction for. The one last year took the log book and filled it in giving me the slip as his company the new owner. I also went online and recorded the sale straight away.

Once that's done not your problem.

    Its quite simple.

The 'no cash' law only applies to scrap metal dealers.

the website you have linked to will be set up not as a scrap metal dealer, but a second hand car dealer. Therefore the scrap metal legislation will not apply. The fact that they called 'scrapmycar' is just a nuance of their marketing.
