Sorry to hear this. Agree that cars are a pain. Ours was really starting to cost us so we bought a new one. We just need something reliable at this stage.

    Morning,

DH is quite down about things. He's had to take the day off which is manager is not happy about. He's hoping to get the car looked at today and borrow his dad's for work as it's unlikely to be fixed today.

Onwards and upwards though. Gotta carry on debt busting.

Got a free space again today with parking. So £2.30 to debt and the same to emergency fund. Despite everything we must continue to build up the emergency fund.

    We will get through this.

MBNA CC payment due today. Minimum payment was £37. I was originally going to pay off £115 on that card each month. However it's interest free for 3 years so I decided to pay off £45 and the remaining £70 put towards the interested accruing NEXT account.

Still no idea on the cost of DH'S car.

Sounds like a wise choice to pay the money towards Next and get rid of it sooner.

Sorry to hear about DH's car, hope you find out the cost soon so you can make a plan.

Just found your diary, although I'm a mortgage free wannabe I do like to get inspiration from some amazing debt busters.

I was thinking about your reasoning for continuing to over pay on your mortgage whilst still having debts and no emergency fund.
Whilst I understand you want to give yourself a cushion should mortgage rates rise, once you've paid off your debts, you will have that additional income to cushion any rate rises.

I'm not sure what the mse approach to over pay on mortgage when debts are at 0%, but I'd definitely be paying off the interest acurring debts before mortgage overpayments.

You are doing brilliantly with your mindset. You will do this.
Once you've paid off your debts then you'll never need finance again.

Thanks Wish for taking the time to read and write on my diary.

I've been having this internal struggle for the last month or so about the mortgage. Whenever I think about stopping the over payments I become a little panicky so quickly dismiss the thought. I know it's irrational. Part of ,ye actually wonders if the reality is I can't trust myself. If I stop the over payment for a year I could put that money in the emergency fund and have in the region of £1200-£1300. That money would be in reach. Would I dip into it for non emergency things?

I guess writing this down is helping. Makes me realise how silly I'm being. I do have an ISA that I'm not using which is not part of my main bank account. In theory it's a good place to put the money as it's not so easy to get out on a whim.

    Mmmm

Gonna think about it a bit more. I suppose in a year I can go back to overpaying.

    Watch this space

A little set back. The car cost £595 to sort. so did a money transfer of £600 with a fee of £17.94. That 0% until June 2020.

I just hope nothing else crops up. Or at least only once we have some savings.

Only positive is the debt added is still less than what's already been paid this month.

    Morning,

Currently sat up in bed, child free, eating a full English. DH is giving me the morning off haha

Well I managed to complete a few more surveys on VO and earned another £10 love shop voucher. £20 in 2 months nor bad for not actually putting that much effort into checking I had surveys to do. I reckon if I continue with my new daily habit if checking every evening my earning potential would be greater.

These vouchers will be for Christmas. I already put £40 each month for Xmas.

I desperately need a haircut, not been touched since about Feb time. So I'll be using £20 from Xmas fund as the vouchers will replace that.

Had no success booking the car boot sale slot for next week. No one answers the bleeding number you have to ring. Think I'll just get back on to Ebaying.

This weekend will be spent making cards for DS teachers.I used to say I'd never get teacher cards or gifts. However DS teachers have been AMAZING this year. So they're getting some small candles which I got cashback on via TCB. Homemade cards and a homemade cupcake each.

Popped to the bank yesterday and got some money bags. DS has two very full piggy banks so we're going to spend time counting out his pennies. We will then make a list of things he'd like and their cost and see whether he'd be able to afford them or if he needs to carry on saving. I absolutely want to instil a respect for money in my children. DS is only 5 and so far he has no concept of how much things cost or where money comes from. I know this will come with time. So for now we'll be focusing on his saving and spending goals.

    Mummy-bear, hello

I like to read diaries of people with similar debt to mine, so I have subscribed. You're doing marvellously.

Don't be down about the car, just think, 2 months ago, that cost would have just been added to an increasing number. Now it has just slightly slowed down the shrinking number.

    Its all good.
