Terrible builder warning. Snodland

Our new extension, kitchen and general refurbishment project should have been finished weeks ago but we had to sack our builder. Snodland in Kent. I'm writing this because I don't want anyone getting caught out as we have. We should have sacked the guy only weeks into the works for making a mess of the bathroom but once you manage to actually get a builder onsite you have to do your best to keep them or go though the whole arduous recruitment process again, and I'm sure we all know how hard that can be ! To cut a long story short we have over 20 superficial defects on the project but since we sacked other builders and the local building inspector have pointed out more serious defects which will need correcting, at our expense of course, these include, supporting piers that are not tied to walls and therefore could collapse, roof left unsupported, exposed cables, damp course breached, and to quote one builder " the worst plastering he has ever seen ". I'm not going to increase stress level by attempting to take this guy to court but I do want to find as many ways as possible to warn others, so any suggestions gratefully received.

There's a pity. next time employ an architect. I did and he drew up the plans and schedule of work, and payments. You see my job, I'm not a builder, nor an architect, so I employ someone who is!Our new extension, kitchen and general refurbishment project should have been finished weeks ago but we had to sack our builder. Thanks for advise and suggestions. We employed someone to draw detailed plans and the builder originally agreed to manage the project although it became clear early on that he couldn't even mange himself. We had a stage payment plan agreed but he continually asked for payment half way through stages then if we argued and refused to pay he stopped work !
We picked this builder after 9 others quoted. He seemed ok, took us to see other work he said he had done, answered all our questions, turned up on time and quoted a reasonable ( not the cheapest ) price. Our first choice back out due to family issues so we went with this guy.
I will check out Rip Off Report and enter report on there, like I say I'm just trying to stop others from facing the same fate.0 -
Something has been removed from your original post. Can you not put the trading name of the builder?
In your original post did you say you sacked other builders as well?0
