USA Dollar Hire Car Trouble (Toll Issue)
I recently went to the USA, not for the first time I hasten to add. But this trip involved a hire car from JFK (Dollar). We decided to book via rentalcars.com
A week or so later I get a charge to my CC for Toll Charges, which it turns out is for activating the Toll Transponder.
Now, we absolutely did not activate it. We paid all our tolls in cash, which is how we always do in the USA (though typically we use our own car, not a rental), it's just that this trip required a rental.
I just wondered if anyone has any information that may assist me. The charge is basically for use of the toll pass service (£149) for the rental period.
I have asked for details of where and when they think the transponder was activated, because they provided no information whatsoever.
Thanks in advance

No direct experience, but I'd formally reject the charge with the hire company and raise as an unauthorised transaction with your credit card provider.
It could be an admin error, a default way of teh comoany trying it on in the hope that many people don't check their statements; the other thing is to recheck the contract to make sure you've not agreed to it within small print somewhere.0

Can you prove you paid the tolls in cash?0

Except I was travelling with passengers and another car in convoy who did exactly the same and can witness to this.
So far Dollar have not provided any information that substantiates their claim either. They just said I activated it.0

It seems the OP hasn't been charged any tolls, just the activation fee which is supposedly "opt in" with Dollar.paddyandstumpy wrote: »Can you prove you paid the tolls in cash?Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0
