Flooring issues

Hi only just found this section...
I have an issue with regards to flooring in my flat.
Laminate flooring or fitted carpets?
The local council doesn't allow/approve of laminate flooring... however, A LOT of my neighbours have fitted it in their flats...
To put laminate down would save me a lot of money, I would also have quite a few large rugs on the floor to add extra sound insulation...
So, should I do as my neighbours and say sod the council and fit what I would like and can afford or continue to try and save for the expensive fitted carpets?

It is important that we know where we come from, because if you do not know where you come from, then you do not know where you are, and if you don't know where you are, then you don't know where you are going. If you don't know where you're going, you're probably going wrong.

Cork tiles are £11.89 a sq m from Wickes and easy to lay yourself. A lot quieter than laminate.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0

How cheap are you looking to go?
if you go super cheap underlay and laminate you may be better just sticking with rugs over what you have now untill you can afford what you really want.0 -
Thanks for replies

at the moment I have a nice bohemian style assortment of small, medium and large rugs covering the clean but bare floorboards.
I have always preferred rugs to fitted carpets...
