Right time to switch?

Hi - we are currently doing our house up, living in caravan whilst works are done. Gas has been switched off for two years and just using electric - last monthly charge was £113 for electric, we pay £13 meter charge for gas (we are currently with SSE ATLANTIC). I called them today as was unaware my charge had gone up as was high already at £86 per month (as we had apparently built a debt of around £700 for electric one quarter through under estimated bills, which we think was due to two electric oil heaters we used during one winter). On phoning them today I have paid off the balance of £85 and they lowered my monthly payment to £63 based on average usage.
Looking through this site I could save £220 a year but that is based on a yearly usage electric bill of £740 and the monthly gas meter charge of £13.
I'm unsure when the gas will go back on as depends on when we get to that point in the house but my question is, is it a good time to switch?

OP, as always, depends what your current tariff is. The only choice is to go on the comparison sites and see what the best price is. You may be far better off looking at separate suppliers for gas and electric given you may not need significant gas for a while. I'd be surprised if you could save £220 a year on those figures but I suppose it depends on the size of your caravan. I have noticed more this year that combined deals are not always as good as separate suppliers, although a bit more convenient. I think moneysupermarket as easy options to look at the different options.0

Don't forget that 'savings' on comparison sites are inflated for those who take fixes as the figures are based on an assumption that you will drift onto the variable rate at the end of the fix.0
