There's not much you can do!

    Erm, really?

If new windows or replacement glazing are placed in an upper-floor side elevation need to be obscure-glazed.

    Needs planning permission OP.

Start with a polite letter asking them to obscure it. (You can obscure it with film on the inside, 5 minute job). If they don't respond contact the council planning department. (The council will try to fob you off, but persist with them)
Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.
  • Surely a hallway window does not need to be obscured. Ours isn't. It is not a room as such and people do not routinely spend time there aside from passing through.

The council are duty bound to investigate and report back to the complainant. Though the decision to enforce is discretionary and in part based on wether or not its in public interest to act.

OP, you might want to refer to.

Thanks for all the replies so far, I will get in touch with the planning office next week.

I cannot tell if the glass is obscure, but the problem is that they open it wide, whereas the previous neighbours opened it a couple of inches and therefore could not see out into my bedroom. When current neighbours open it the window opens at an 180 degree angle so opening bit is virtually flush with their wall and they can see directly into my bedroom. As their window is higher (first floor) than my bedroom window they can see inside my bedroom.

I have urges to get a catapult and fire something in through it....but I am a really bad shot :rotfl:

If it was the other way round and I could see in to the neighbours bedroom and I noticed they were there I would quickly close the window, but they just carry on looking at me! :o

Employ a local of "poor physique" to get naked, face the window, turn 180 degrees, and touch their toes a few times...:rotfl:

    I'm avilable for a fee! :p

Get out of bed, walk to the window and stare back at them.
  • :rotfl:Re staring back - and I've found that some neighbours can now see through into my house (unfortunately - it's not from side windows - so there doesnt seem to be anything I can do "planning permission" wise to stop them - unlike yourself).

So - I stare back at them deliberately any time I catch them doing so. It seems to stop them in their tracks pretty quickly.

But I'm in process of getting something done to maintain my privacy at that window concerned....

Wouldn't it be better if it encouraged them to move on?;)
