Transfer of No Claims Bonus to widow.

My friend's husband died 3 months ago leaving her an 83 year old widow.
Her husband was the main driver and she was a named driver.
She informed the Insurance Company of the death and was apparently told that the 9 years NCB her husband had accrued could/would be transferred to her.She asked if they send a verification letter to her.
A Proof of 9 years NCB letter came from the Insurance yesterday in her deceased husbands name.
She rang them to see if they would send one in her name but they wouldn't.
My friend is adamant they said the 9 years NCB could/would be transferred to her.
I have never heard of this kind of transfer and would be grateful if anyone could shed any light on it.
She would like to keep driving but without the 9 years NCB the price is eye watering.

Most insurers do change over ncd to the remaining spouse
Get her to try and speak to a manager about this, and if that fails try a complaint over the conflict between her original phone call and the subsequent incorrect confirmation letter0 -
Perhaps they are willling to recognise the bonus if a new policy is taken out via them, but not willing to issue proof of NCB in her name.
Whilst that seems immoral, there's no rules either way on this. Who is the broker/insurer?
Regardless, they should send a proof of claims free driving on request.
Then, take that claim free letter to any decent broker (not Swinton) and they will have agreements (or very quickly gain agreement) with insurers to recognise this bonus.
I hope it all works out.0 -
Thanks for the helpful information.
Everything now sorted.
Insurance company will transfer the 9 years No Claims Bonus the husband had earned to his widow, who was the named driver.
They will only do this if she takes out new insurance wit them.
They will not send out written proof of 9 years NCB which could be used
for insurance with another insurance company.
Insurance with 9 years NCB with them is £736.
Insurance with 9 years NCB on a comparison website £410.
Insurance with 0 years NCB on a comparison website £1290.
She has paid the £736.0 -
That sounds reasonable; she can then move next year.0
