One person's refusal to accept the reality of the market place is not a good general guide. I accept that the secondhand prices of Ercol do not reflect the quality of the goods. Nevertheless they do have a value worth much more than throwing them away. I have six superb pieces of Ercol furniture, three bookcases with cupboards plus a Pandora's Box, sideboard and a corner cabinet that cost me a total of less than £1,000. A fantastic bargain.I stand by my opinion as I know of someone who isn't prepared to sell her dark Ercol for the derisory prices it fetches currently. Of course she has no external pressure to have to do so.0 -
You could try a car boot sale for the portable stuff such as the china? Might not get what you could at auction, but, for a £5 entry fee, you save a lot on auction fees, so might end up better off in the end. Kitchenalia is always popular too.
The local auction house here would definitely take brown furniture, but the more up-market one I used to live near wouldn't have taken furniture likely to sell for less than £100.
Is there any way you could contact some local up-cyclers who would pay you a bit for the furniture & then keep their profit? At least you might get some money.
You can donate towels to your local wildlife hospital.0 -
And I can find listings for plenty of dark brown Ercol furniture going for £20 a piece and that is what they are asking for not getting. Even restorers don't want to pick those up. Although I agree there is more of a market for some of the larger pieces such as the room dividers even in a dark colour and condition also of course comes into play.Yorkshireman99 wrote: »One person's refusal to accept the reality of the market place is not a good general guide.
