Galaxy S5 not charging, just overheating.

Hi all,
Before I'm forced to take my trusty old Samsung Galaxy S5 to a repair shop for some diagnostics no doubt leading to a large quote if it's fixable, thought I would just pick the brains of the contributors here who may have experienced similar and can add what was wrong and what it took to repair.
My S5 decided to turn itself off whilst in my pocket. I didn't think any thing was wrong, the battery was getting low anyway. Plugged it in to the mains charger and left it for 10 minutes. The phone felt a bit warmer than when on previous charges, especially towards the top of it and wouldn't switch on. Paying closer attention,I plugged it back in and the battery symbol that normally popped on screen indicating it was getting a charge was not there.
Thinking the battery had died I ordered brand new replacement. Same problem. Not charging, just getting very warm, again mostly at the top of the phone maybe slightly above the battery
Thanks in advance for any advice on this.

You could try a factory reset in case there's some silly logical loop - find the manual or look online as there are different methods for different handsets. It ought not solve anything in an ideal world, but if you send it for repair they'll do that anyway so no harm.

:Let me clarify this first. You said your replacement battery is not charging. Have you managed to turn your Galaxy with new battery to use it as usual?

I also assume that the answer is Yes.

Charger, a Factory reset (if turned on) would be helpful.
I will add to the list, USB cable, (and cable connection)

Galaxy S5 is still fairly powerful stuff. hope you can fix it

Thank you all for the reply's.

Tried 3 seperate fully working Samsung chargers, no change unfortunately. Popped the replacement battery in, tried booting the phone, dead. Still heating up unusually even with the new battery. Tried the replacement battery in a friend's S5, worked right away. And it charged as normal. I can confirm the new battery is sound.

Very annoying. The S5 is still a very usable piece of kit, looks like I'll have to try a repair shop. Luckily I now know of a good local place run by a guy who's more than fair with his customers.

    Thank's all.

sounds likes my previous experience(s) with samsung kit. i like their stuff, but it's not built to last. i lost a 8.4 S and a 12.1 Tab. i'm weary of buying from them again.
