The AA Punative Charges

My 82 year old father bought cover just before midnight and the following day rang to cancel as he realized he had cover elsewhere.. They want to charge him a £20 cancellation fee. They don't recognition the consumer laws on distance selling and insist on this charge. What it covers I don't know. It can only be punitive. I have sent my complaint to the CAB and they are forwarding it to Trading standards. This does not help my father though.

Sounds like a charge to cover the admin of setting up the policy. I think this is allowed under the distance selling regs.

I'm not sure distance selling regs apply to the sale of financial products.

It'll be in their t's + c's whether they can charge an admin fee to cancel.

It is an insurance and that definitely does come with a 14 day cooling off period.

I would have thought an insurance related product would be covered and that the regulations would trump any Ts and Cs.

They are allowed to charge an admin fee plus a fee for usage
