Cheapest way to use a mobile in Australia ?

Going to Australia for 10 days shortly, while I'm there I'll need to use my mobile. I'll need free incoming calls and the cheapest possible calls back to the UK. I don't expect to call many local numbers.

I thought about buying an Australian PAYG sim but I assume any payg tariff will be crippling for calls back to the UK.

Any advice gratefully received.

TIA

Mods, couldn't decide if this was travel or phones, so please move it if you want.

If you're a Vodafone user, Vodafone passport was great for us last year. We had to call home a lot as we had a death in our immediate family while we were out there. I think it cost us 75p per call, plus the minutes were used from our existing tariff. We called home once a day for about 20 minutes, saved a fortune.

The only thing you need to do is make sure that you're on the corresponding tariff in Australia, which was easy in all the big cities. Worth checking if the prices still stand.
