Uninstall Avira and re-install, or . . ??

The happy little unfurled red umbrella Avira icon in my system tray has vanished. I know, not an unknown occurrence if posts elsewhere on the Net are anything to go by, but frustrating nevertheless.
What's odd is that (a) Avira System Tray (avgnt.exe) is running and (b) Show hidden icons / Customize takes me to the usual Notification Area Icons list within which appears:
"Avira. Avira Connect Status: Protected. Last update: Today." As to related behaviour, the setting is "Show icon and notifications."
So on this Windows 7 desktop of mine, with its choice of show notifications, or hide notifications, or show both icon and notification, I have Avira designated in that last category, and Avira's avgnt.exe is running, and yet, and yet . . .
Any ideas?
With anything less used / less critical, I wouldn't mind, but where an AV is concerned I really would like to have the certainty that it's running without me having to go check that that's the case.
The only thing I can think of is uninstalling and re-installing Avira but that's a tedious route I'd prefer to avoid if possible.

Have you tried changing Avira to Hide Notifications, save then change back to Show Both? (Sometimes Windows needs a nudge).0

Is there a "repair" option in the Control Panel "Programs and Features" applet?0

You could try Revo uninstaller to remove it as it will remove the rubbish it leaves behind on disk and in the registry.
Alternatively you could go with another product like bit defender which is supposed to have less of an overhead.
the slightly older version of BD free certainly did have less overhead, the current one is a fair bit heavier tbh..... I have noticed this over several recent installs.
Still lighter than pretty much everything else though
......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple
