A & L Direct Saver Warning

Just a heads up for everyone trying to get their money out of A&L Direct Saver. A&L will not allow you to CHAPs the money into the linked account - there is absolutely nothing in their T&C about this but they just refuse. Second, make sure you double check that they have actioned the request. I asked for the account to be closed yesterday but just phoned and they haven't done it so had to start again. So I won't now get the money into my linked account until Friday. I'm really hacked off as I've lost five days interest and all the 6 months bonds are disappearing fast.

And...

I had to take some money out in August. I waited till Aug 1st (so I got the July interest), and transferred all but a few quid out to the linked current account, and then into the linked PlusSaver. Thought I might as well get some interest on the remainder.

Then on Aug30th, I transferred the remainder back from the PlusSaver to the DirectSaver. So the money was in the account for the whole of September.

October 1st comes. No interest credited.

October 2nd comes. Cant log into their site. Message comes up :

There was a message on the log in page that interest due on the 1st would be veiwable by the end of the 1st. They have obviously been having some problems. One of my accounts had the interest on first thing and another appeared later in the day. Had no problems getting on today though.

It is time for me to say goodbye to A&L Direct Saver. Could not login yesterday. Managed to login today but the system only allow me to transfer £25,000 per day maximum to my A&L current account. It's not worth the hassle to stay with A&L considering you can now easily get 6.7% one year bond elsewhere.

If you had phoned them up you could have transferred any amount. The 25k limit is for online transactions only.

There is a freephone number for A&L 08000 688 638 (their credit card number.) Press '2' for A&L banking and follow the prompts from there.
