Paying Two Energy Companies for one Gas Supply
I switched my gas and electric accounts to EDF because British Gas said all they could offer were standard tariffs. My gas and electric account switched over to EDF on 21st April 2017 and when I phone EDF they say that both of my accounts are now with them although they said the National Database hasn't updated and is showing that my gas account is still with British Gas. But when I log in to British Gas it's showing my gas account still being active with them and when I phone them they say that my gas account is still with them and they are still charging me. I'm now getting calls from the British Gas collections department telling me to pay them and I've asked them to close my account and issue me a final bill but they won't do it. But EDF took their first payment for both gas and electric on the 10th May. So now I'm being charged by two companies for one gas supply who both say that the gas supply is with them. I can't afford to pay two companies and this is going to get me into a lot of debt. I don't know what to do if EDF say the gas account is with them but British Gas refuse to close my account? Am I liable for any money to British Gas after 21st April when my account is showing as having moved to EDF?

It could be you have an Independent Gas Transporter (IGT). IGT transfers can take longer to process, plus recently the Nexus project has delayed the transfer of information between Suppliers as lots of work is backed up waiting for the database to go live in June. It would be worth contacting EDF to see if they have contacted British Gas.
Ultimately you cannot pay two companies for the same supply of gas but your transfer of gas will likely be a later date than your electricity.0 -
Calls from BG's Collections Dept. are worrying as they are a late stage in the system that ends with forced entry to fit Paygo meters.
It's important that you protect yourself from BG's escalating demands for cash by establishing a paper trail.
WRITE a letter to them headed Complaint, giving them the Start Meter Reading of your EDF account and enclosing copies of the 'Welcome' documents you recieved from EDF.0 -
I think I've found out what's happened. EDF said tonight that they think the gas account that's been transferred to them belongs to the woman in the flat downstairs. So that's why I haven't had a final bill from British Gas because as far as they are concerned, my account is still with them. This is the second time they've done this. When I had smart meters fitted they aligned them with the woman in the downstairs' flat's account. I don't know why British Gas keep getting the two flats confused. It's not like I've even got a similar name to the woman downstairs. So I've got a complaint lodged with EDF now and they said if there are negative consequences for me because of the account not transferring over when I thought it had then they'll sort it out. Tomorrow I'll open a complaint with British Gas because this is their fault for transferring the wrong MPRN number over. I thought it was strange that the flat downstairs had a letter from British Gas the other day because they left British Gas before I did.0

Why is it BG fault the wrong supply left?
It's down to Edf to request the correct meter.Be happy, it's the greatest wealth0
