Eon Prepayment to SMART Credit Meter
Hi,
I live in a top floor one bed apartment in a city centre which is fully electric ran. When I moved in a month ago the apartment had a prepayment meter (Which was a nightmare). Eon owned this and they changed it to a credit smart meter. It was changed on the 4th May and still has not updated on the exchange. Firstly how long does this take and will my prepayment meter account update to a credit meter when the change has happened rather than me having to ring up al the time....Also, as I asked Eon to change the prepayment meter to a credit meter, am I bound to stay with Eon or could I jump to another provider. Anyone know who is best for purely electric?
Thanks Everyone!
Tom

Hello Tom and glad we were able to fit a meter more to your liking.
It can take a few weeks to fully update our systems. Following a meter exchange on 4 May, I'd expect this to be done and dusted any time now. Probably by the end of next week at the latest. The meter operator for the area will have done the work and sent us the details via an electronic message. It can take a few days for the message to come through depending on who the meter operator is. We then need to let a number of third parties know about the change. These include the electricity distributor, meter readers and the national database that holds details of all electricity meters in the country. This is also done via a series of electronic messages.
Once all is through, your online account will update and you'll be able to use the services on our website. You'll also be able to change supplier. You're certainly not tied to us.
When you arranged for the meter exchange, did you pick a tariff from those available at the time? If you did, this will be the tariff we'll put you on and it'll be back dated to the day the meter was changed. Similarly with the billing. The technician will have sent us the closing readings from the old meter and the opening readings from the new meter. We'll base the billing on these.
As we've fitted a smart meter, changing supplier could see some changes to how the meter and display work. This includes the need to read the meter manually. This is only temporary until all suppliers use a centralised data communications company (DCC) who will pass meter readings to the current supplier.
Hope this explains Tom. Let me know if you need any more information. Happy to help.
