car bonnet not closing properly

yea it has always been stiff, when lifting up it goes up with pressure and we can put the batch on fine, when lowing it lowers on one side more and clicks but there is a slight open on one side.0

Definitely sounds like the hinges need a good clean and lubricate, then. They've probably corroded due to lack of use... This is your car giving you a stern look for neglecting it, y'know.
I'd be giving them a good spray with Plusgas or similar. Spray, close, open. Spray, close, open. Spray, close, open. When it starts to open and close freely, then use some spray grease. Repeat regularly.0 -
Modern cars are so reliable, and use so little fluids, that they're their own worst enemies as far as routine checks go.If the bonnet won't open sufficiently to properly do all the checks, the test will be abandoned.
If the bonnet isn't opening fully, can it be propped securely?
If it can't be propped securely, how are you doing your weekly fluid level checks...?
Apart from the screen washer, topping up anything is rarely needed, which tends to make users blase about the whole checking thing.0 -
Thanks
If It is the bonnet and it wont fully open will the fail my mot or will they not go ahead with the mot?
I had a 2006 Focus that need a "special move" to open the bonnet (thanks Ford with your stupid key lock mechanisms) it had got worse and worse until I had an MOT and completely forgot to tell the tester how to open it. Still passed as he manged to do the checks with the bonnet shut - just.0 -
I'd be intrigued to know how he could check battery security or brake fluid level with the bonnet closed.I had a 2006 Focus that need a "special move" to open the bonnet (thanks Ford with your stupid key lock mechanisms) it had got worse and worse until I had an MOT and completely forgot to tell the tester how to open it. The lack of general requirement to 'top up' any fluids does not negate the need to check their levels regularly...0 -
Indeed not.BeenThroughItAll wrote: »The lack of general requirement to 'top up' any fluids does not negate the need to check their levels regularly...
But my point was that the very fact that they don't need topping up often tends to make some drivers careless about checking.0
