Gas cooker - size of gaps both sides?

Refresh my memory place, what should the gap be either side of a gas cooker appliance? And, where is the gap measured - between it and adjoining kitchen unit? Or between it and the edge of adjoining work top?

Is the 'gap' a guideline, or is it mandatory?

For example, if the gap, isn't as wide as recommended, and you try to replace the cooker like for like - will it be fitted?

Not 100% but I think it's only a guideline, as I recently had a gas cooker fitted, the gas safe guy fitted it, even tho it was a tight squeeze, at one point he thought the cooker was to big, I then had a gas safely check a couple of weeks later and the lack of a gap was only noted on the sheet, no other action was needed.

Just to add tho, the cooker itself might have a requirement to have a gap, if the sides are not well insulated, I checked mine, and it stated no gap required. Some do tho, so best check.

The manufacturer's installation instructions are the definitive answer.

If they say no gap is needed then so be it.

If they say 50mm each side, then that is what you must leave.

50mm rear and sides on a hob

20mm at sides for a slot in gas cooker

You can't just quote those figures because 50mm on the sides depend on the height of the cupboards above & I've fitted loads of cookers that only need 5mm either side, so like #3 said you need to check the MI
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.

Interesting - so how tight a fit because of the work-tops doesn't seem relevant - thank goodness.
Info - free-standing double-oven, with no cupboards above - only extractor fan. Both appliances are wired into a non-switch socket.

Interesting too, that it's something to look out for in the oven's spec details.
